Firefighters have been recognised for their long service at Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Services annual awards ceremony.
This year saw awards, medals and certificates presented in a number of categories including: the Queen’s Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, Community Achievement Awards, Celebrating Partnership in Industry and recognition of the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Chief Fire Officer, Graeme Smith said: “The ceremony provided me with a great opportunity to personally thank staff for their commitment and dedication to the service and it was a privilege to have the Lord Lieutenant, Martin Dunn, present the long service medals as the Queens representative.
As well as recognising teams and individuals within the service, the evening also gave me an opportunity to recognise the contribution of all staff and to acknowledge the support of local businesses who release their staff for retained duties.“
Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, Richard Hobbs said: “I would like to personally congratulate all those who received awards at the ceremony. It was a pleasure to see Warwickshire firefighters being recognised for the great work they do within our communities. This year, several firefighters and fire control staff received Long Service and Good Conduct medals, for their dedication to protecting the community of Warwickshire for over 20 years. This is an outstanding achievement and one I was delighted to celebrate with all those attending the event."
The awards were as follows:
Queens Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, (for 20 years service). Presented by the Lord Lieutenant, Martin Dunne.

· Watch Commander, Leo Fielding – Atherstone Fire Station
· Firefighter, Neal Lewis – Nuneaton Fire Station
· Watch Commander, Anthony Thornton – Fenny Compton Fire Station
· Crew Commander, Scot Whitlock - Fire Control, Leamington Fire Station
Celebrating Partnership with Industry Award presented by Councillor Phillip Morris-Jones.
The Celebrating Partnership with Industry Award is presented to individuals/organisations that have formed a partnership with Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service that has resulted in benefiting the Service or the local Community.
· Ms Fay Shanahan – Orbit Heart of England Housing Association
The Community Achievement Award presented by Councillor Phillip Morris-Jones.
The Community achievement Award is presented to individuals who have been pro-active within the community undertaking tasks / projects which have been of benefit to the community.

· Crew Commander, Paul Cartwright
· Firefighter, Leeanna Kostka
· Watch Commander, Lee Tresigne
The Outstanding Community Support Award presented by Councillor Richard Hobbs
The Outstanding Community Support Award is presented to recognise the support given to the Service by the employers of Retained personnel
· Daniel Lock – Praxair Surface Technologies – received the ‘Silver Award’ for supporting Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service for 10 years
· John Reeder – Compton Buildings – received the ‘Outstanding Award’ for supporting Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service for over 15 Years
· Paul Warmington – Henley Engineers received the ‘Outstanding Award’ for supporting Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service for over 15 Years
Presentation of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service Innovation Award. The award was presented by Councillor Richard Hobbs
This award is presented to teams or individuals who have developed creative and innovative ways to develop or improve services.

Presentation of the Unsung Hero Award, presented by Chief Fire Officer, Graeme Smith
The Unsung Hero award is presented to teams or individuals who the Service, feel have gone the extra mile, carrying out their duties with both professionalism and dedication to the organisation.
· Warwickshire County Council’s Deputy News and PR Manager, Lisa Mowe
Presentation of the Chief Fire Officer’s Special Award, presented by Chief Fire Officer, Graeme Smith
The award recognised the Colour Party for the time and effort they put in to represent the Service at national and overseas events. The members perform these duties on a voluntary basis.
