Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the A426 Rugby Road near Southam at 13:00 yesterday [Thursday 15 September, 2011].
The collision occurred when a blue Renault Clio travelling from Rugby towards Southam, left the road and collided with some small trees before going down the embankment into the quarry.
An ambulance, an incident support officer, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, police and fire services all attended the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service Spokesman said: “Ambulance crews were called to a single vehicle incident at a quarry location in Long Itchington yesterday.
Despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
Police have launched an investigation into how the collision occurred and are appealing for witnesses who saw the blue Renault Clio as it drove along the A426 to please contact PC 0588 Mick Hogan in the Major Investigation Unit on 01926 415415.
This fatal accident comes a week after another incident where a car also left the Rugby Road killing the driver. The car involved in last week's accident was also a Renault Clio, in red. Police are also seeking any witnesses to that incident and sightings of the car.
