‘Pub Rock’ is a show with a difference – part theatre, part pub rock gig
Theatre company Cartoon de Salvo are set to bring Pub Rock, a unique rock ‘n roll theatre event that tells the story of a pub covers band, to pubs in Long Itchington and Ansty as part of a UK tour of village pubs.
Performed in real time with live versions of pub rock favourites included in the show, Pub Rock tells the story of One Trick Pony, a band that have been together since school, a typical covers band who play all the classic songs. But tonight Richie the guitarist wants to play his own experimental, original material.
For twenty years, One Trick Pony have been rockin’ all over the UK, giving audiences exactly what they want. So what makes tonight different? Come and find out and join Cartoon de Salvo for a slice of pub life and a tale of risk, loyalty, success, failure and artistic integrity all accompanied by a play list of great pub rock classics.
Pub Rock comes to Warwickshire following a debut run at a pub in Hammersmith, West London in early 2010 that saw the Evening Standard name it one of their top five shows of the week.
“The Salvos treat us to a gig with a difference…let’s hope they rock on.” * * * *
EVENING STANDARD
Founded in 1997, Cartoon de Salvo is one of the UK’s most respected theatre companies. Their cocktail of script-defying improvisation, live music and exceptional storytelling has won critical acclaim and a devoted following. On their quest to mess with the live theatre experience, the Salvos make theatre that wears its heart on its sleeve, that likes an adventure, and that never forgets that the audience is the number one reason for putting on the show.
The company has played everywhere from tiny village halls and cliff tops in Cornwall, from proper producing houses to allotments, to Edinburgh, Glastonbury and Hong Kong International Festivals. They have created eleven major shows, including: Meat and Two Veg, which was named in The Observer’s top ten shows of 2002; The Sunflower Plot, their acclaimed allotment-set outdoor theatre event, and The Ratcatcher of Hamelin.
This year they’ve been commissioned by the Arts Council and the National Rural Touring Forum to look at bringing new kinds of work to rural locations beyond the traditional setting of the village hall. Pub Rock is coming to a boozer near you!
“Surreal, unpretentious, swashbuckling theatre”
