The Cemex Southam Quarry site could have been hosting Hollywood Movie Bloke Brad Pitt this August and September.
Back in March / April production staff working on the forthcoming blockbuster "World War Z" were at the Southam site checking it out for use as an underground entrance in scenes for the film.
Specifically, they had plans to shoot in the huge kiln building, pictured below.
The disused structure would have fitted perfectly the post apocalypse backdrop to the movie which star Brad Pitt and is directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace).
The movie features zombies or, to be politically correct, "the livingly challenged'. Plans included the use of 200 - 500 extras in scenes featuring the living dead - some of which could have been from Southam.
Cemex were up for it and didn't seem bothered about the subject matter confirming they have nothing against the living dead, per se. Cemex are well used to filming at their UK sites and previously had Steven Spielberg shooting scenes for Saving Private Ryan at one of their quarries.
Cemex don't charge that much for using their sites for filming but are keen to avoid disruption to work. In Southam's case the building is due to be demolished so would have offered plenty of scope for explosive action scenes.
However, the movie makers decided against filming here and, presumably looking for desolate grim awful locations, headed off to London & Glasgow.
Rumours persist however of a remake of The Sound of Musicwhich may or may not have Napton on the Hill serving as a backdrop. This movie, unfortunately, will not have zombies in it.
