Demolition work is getting under way this week at the Cemex Southam facility.
The project has been approved by WCC and was discussed with local community representatives at the last meeting of the Southam Liaison Group on July 26th.
The contractors are moving on to site this week to begin preparatory work.
The project is scheduled to last circa 20 weeks and will involve something like four vehicle movements per day.
The majority of the redundant cement manufacturing buildings will be removed - production ceased on site in 2000.
The chimney will stay - this is because the clay handling and blending facility which has been the subject of recent significant investment (around £2 million) lies within any blast zone.
The quarry and clay blending will continue as normal during the demolition project.
It is anticipated that there will be little or no disturbance to local residents due to the location of the redundant buildings and the agreed method of working.
There are no plans to use the site for any other use other than the continued quarrying of clay and its processing prior to supply to the Rugby cement plant.
