The widow of Red Arrows pilot, Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging, is taking part in the Great North Run today.
Doctor Emma Egging has set up The Jon Egging Trust in memory of her husband who was killed during a Red Arrows display.
Taking part in the race, Dr Egging hopes it will draw attention to the new trust.
The Jon Egging Trust
Our mission is to give disadvantaged young people new opportunities to help them achieve their potential.
On the 20th August 2011 Flt Lt Jon Egging tragically lost his life whilst completing a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival. He was coming to the end of his first year with the world famous Royal Air Force Red Arrows aerobatic team.
Before he died Jon had become passionate about inspiring young people to take control of their lives through his love of flying and enthusiasm for teamwork. The Jon Egging Trust has been set up by his wife Emma and to enable his ambition to be realised.
At present the trust is in its infancy. Over the coming months we will be developing a scheme which will enable young people to develop their natural talents and take control of their future.
Late today, The Red Arrows will fly over the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle.
